For there is one God and one Mediator between God and Men, the Man Christ Jesus

Recently someone noted that "more wars have been fought because of religion than for any other reason".

My first thought was that this sounds like an attack on religion as I believe that most wars have been fought for reasons of militarism, alliances, imperialism and nationalism, which generally have an economic basis.

Then I thought about this a bit more and believe that "religion", or more to the point, "spiritual" reasons are at the heart of why nations go to war.

For example, the desires for more territory or control of natural resources are driven by greed and have a spiritual basis. Long term hatred is another reason nations (or groups of people) go to war and hate also has a spiritual basis (although spiritually evil). We can even take this to a more personal level as reasons for conflicts in family, community and country.

God created a "very good earth", but mankind rebelled.

Gen 1:30-31
31 Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good.

Consider the first recorded "war" on earth in Genesis chapter 3. The first human sin, where man rebellion against God, is recorded with God making a declaration of war between Good and evil in Genesis 3:15. From this point on, absolute peace and harmony on earth ended.

Gen 3:15
15 And I will put enmity
Between you and the woman,
And between your seed and her Seed;
He shall bruise your head,
And you shall bruise His heel."

At this early point in earth's recorded history, war came. Man sinned (rebelled) against God and there was no turning back. War, between the forces of Good and evil, was declared on earth.

There were now two different masters that man could choose to follow. Once man sinned, he became a slave to sin. Jesus had this to say as he was talking with the religious leaders of the day.

John 8:34
34 Jesus answered them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.

Jesus made it clear that man can't serve two masters at the same time when He said:

Luke 16:13
13 "No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other.

Man has to choose whom he will serve. Jesus made it clear that there is no middle ground as we serve one of two masters (Good or evil).  Jesus was very clear when He was talking with the religious leaders...

John 8:39
44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.

So once mankind declared war on God, peace was no longer possible until God crushes Satan and his followers.

Rom 16:17-20
17 Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. 18 For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly, and by smooth words and flattering speech deceive the hearts of the simple. 19 For your obedience has become known to all. Therefore I am glad on your behalf; but I want you to be wise in what is good, and simple concerning evil. 20 And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly.

Until the time that God crushes Satan, there will be war in the name of religion for all the spiritual reasons of evil. You don't believe this? Look around and think with the mind God gave you. There are wars, sometimes with both sides being under the power of the spirit of evil.

Consider the fruit of the Spirit of God:

Gal 5:22-23
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control.

Then consider the fruit of the evil one:

Eph 4:30-32
30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. 32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

These examples of fruit of Good and evil are very different and are at the root cause of war between people and nations.

Eph 6:12-13
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Choose who you will follow carefully before you draw your last breath when then it will be too late.

Heb 4:7
"Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts."

Who do you serve today?  Are you a child of God or a child of Satan?
